Claudia Li FW20 // Fall Winter 2020 Runway – New York Fashion Week

🗽New York, NY – Feb. 8th, 2020: “To Celebrate Grandfather” – Claudia Li paid a special homage in the FW20 collection of happy childhood memories when visiting China and Grandfather’s favorite things – he played eight different kind of musical instruments and they would visit the pet store together to watch the goldfish swim. Goldfish & musical instruments were transformed into vibrant tonal prints with bold signature construction. The #catwalk was also multidimensional – as her prints – with a unique zig-zag runway that allowed all runway guests the privilege of the #FrontRow experience. Grandad was fond on plaids, says Li in her newest IGTV film by @thejordanriggs, and in fact the most cherished photos “he was wearing some sort of plaid.” His quirky and playful sense of humor is definitely reminiscent in Li’s interpretation of the Fall Winter 2020 binge-worthy collection. Our obsessions include the pink fur coat & pillow handbag along with the Claudia Li logo print and the must have yellow goldfish print look. Extra special thanks to the Claudia Li team & The Hinton Group for allowing us to preview the collection first-hand.

Collection Review –

By: Yirou Wang

This collection is based on her and her grandfather’s memory. Her grandfather passed away last year, and she wanted to memorialize him through this collection. Therefore, all the elements are created by memories with her grandfather, such as plaid, waterproof (PVC) suiting, pink, and goldfish. Those details representing the love between granddaughter and grandfather in the Fall Winter 2020 collection.

Collection Review –

By: Kristi Yang

Meet Samantha Darryanto, a first-time NYFW designer striving to “modernize traditional Asian culture to create pretty things”

My notes on Samantha Darryanto’s collection at Oxford Fashion Studio’s NYFW AW20 show were “tasteful lingerie, feminine, elegant, mesh,” so I was surprised to hear about her more technical past and present. However, like her work, Darryanto has an ethereal quality. Her creative designs along with her sing-song voice and quirky Instagram bio make her and her collection stand out amongst the rest. Through her work, she is attempting to “communicate messages to others and go beyond a piece of clothing” and that is exactly what she accomplished at this season’s show. After seeing her pieces down the runway, and chatting with her a bit on Instagram, I knew I had to get an interview with one of the sweetest designers at NYFW. Read on to find out about Darryanto’s culture, collection, and how she balances a full-time job and NYFW.

EXCLUSIVE Interview w/ Samantha Darryanto –

www.samanthadarryanto.com | @samanthadarryanto

Q. FashionWeek.Pro: To start off, can you just introduce yourself and your brand?

A. Samantha Darryanto:  My name is Samantha Darryanto and my collection for this season is anak-ku which means “my child,” and it’s an homage to my two cultures—I’m Chinese Indonesian. This collection is basically like my child of being, incorporating Chinese and Indonesian influences into my work. And then, I am my parents’ child, and I’m half Indonesian, half Chinese. A lot of my work this time around is a fusion of, again, my Asian heritage, trying to modernize that into wearable fashion.

Q. FashionWeek.Pro: What inspired you to initially go into the career of fashion? Because I read that you went to MIT to study engineering, so how did that transition into fashion?

A. Samantha Darryanto:  I have no professional background in fashion. I was actually at an internship in Utah my sophomore year of college and got really bored and decided I wanted to go to the thrift store to start altering clothes. I bought like $3 extra-large dresses, and I turned them into things that I would wear. From there, it kind of took off, where I continued to alter clothing and started participating in fashion shows at school. After that, I moved into making my own clothing and so it sort of took off from there I guess. Right now I currently work full time in finance—I’m a trader—so this is just something I do on the side.

Q. FashionWeek.Pro: What inspired you to apply to the Oxford Fashion Studio?

A. Samantha Darryanto:  I didn’t apply! They reached out to me. They found my work from a previous show that I had done. They reached out and said that they loved my work and that they wanted to introduce me to NYFW as part of the show. And I honestly thought it was a scam at first. It just dropped into my lap, like “hey, do you want to be part of NYFW.” And so, yeah. I went with it. I did my research, and I realized they’re a legit company. Then from there, we moved forward and were part of the show. So I actually didn’t apply!

Q. FashionWeek.Pro: That’s really interesting. Do you think you’ll ever make that career transition? From finance to fashion full time?

A. Samantha Darryanto: I think eventually, yes. Right now I’m still dabbling because it’s a little bit tough for me, because I never went to FIT or anything. So in terms of making connections and having a network, it’s sort of difficult. The plan is to start off doing NYFW, build more connections, try to figure out how it all works, and then from there, building on and then eventually—after I feel comfortable enough—transitioning fully into style. But right now, I can’t fund what I’m doing if I moved into fashion completely, because I wouldn’t have a source of income. Right now, my job is a means to an end, and then in my spare time, this is what I do. And I spend a lot of time, like all my weekends.

Q. FashionWeek.Pro: What advice would you give to budding designers?

A. Samantha Darryanto: Keep creating. You only need one person to see your stuff and be like “this is amazing” to believe in you. I feel like I go through imposter syndrome a lot where I feel like I don’t have the technical background for this so like, I didn’t deserve to be part of New York Fashion Week, I didn’t deserve, you know, to be—because I also got coached by Project Runway and all this stuff without me ever applying. They sort of just reached out. And I think you only need one person to see your stuff online and be like “she has something,” so I think you keep designing and you don’t need that background. Someone will find your pieces, as long as you put in the hard work.

Chocheng FW20 // Fall Winter 2020 Runway – New York Fashion Week

🗽New York, NY – Feb. 7th, 2020: Parsons alum Cho Cho Cheng delivers another spectacular FW20 runway collection at Spring Studios during NYFW true to the brand’s DNA with flawless British tailoring and impeccable Chocheng style. The colors, fabrics & music selection all resonated with Chocheng’s signature couture aesthetic. The collection is sustainably sourced with 100% natural & cruelty-free materials. Every look in the collection is hand-sewn in London by traditional Savile Row sewing techniques. Chocheng also opened a flagship store in Manhattan last year on Fifth Ave – you will definitely want to see these masterpieces up close & personal.

Collection Reviews –

By: YiRou Wang

Vintage style meets with trendy elements. Classic 1960’s wicker totes give the Chocheng runway a flash of retro style. The strong contrast of colors shapes the silhouettes in the collection. Three-dimensional silhouettes demonstrate a larger volume of the apparel.

By: Anadya Sibal

The Chocheng show was sophisticated chic. From green and pink color-blocked blazers to black shift dresses, this collection was designed for the woman who is classy and fun. The sleek hair and bold lip complimented the polished looks, giving them an heir of stylish refinement.

By: Natalie Kendrick

What an amazing show to watch! Chocheng used bright colors such as pink and turquoise on formal yet classically elegant outfits.

By: Tatiana DiSanti

It was a sea of pink bubblegum, teal, and black, simple yet outspoken; familiar and audacious at once. Each piece paired with a natural makeup foundation juxtaposed with a bold lip and defined brows, altogether creating cohesion between feelings of fun, playfulness, and business.

Press Release –

CHOCHENG FW20 COLLECTION RELEASE

The enduring and inimitable style of the defining heroines of cinema continues to inspire designer Cho Cho Cheng, the creative force behind CHOCHENG. Consistently inspired by iconic women of film from the 1920s to 1980s, each show tells a story of an impactful moment in time, transporting the audience to another era.

For his Fall-Winter 2020 collection, he looked to Shirley Maclaine’s iconic style in the film, The Apartment.

A press photo of her in a tuxedo was particularly appealing for Cho as it breaks the tradition of tuxedoes being solely for men which was pioneering at the time. The male/female interplay is often evident in Chocheng shows, the key is to display femininity and authority at once.

There is a nod to the 1970’s / 1980’s disco movement and boss ladies this season, particularly in this season’s color palette, which includes pops of hot pink, purple and green.

In typical Chocheng fashion, there is always a whimsical interpretation of traditional British tailoring which perfectly complements his myriad interests and inspirations. Silhouettes reference equestrian style and trompe l’oeil jackets are at the forefront this season. Cho’s collections feature innovative techniques in creating form and silhouette through natural fabrics evident in AW20’s use of hand-ruched tulle giving the effect of a fur or shearling collar. Also featured are Chocheng’s signature cotton boucle jackets, cotton crepe shirts and handsewn petals accessories.

Of note, Cho has dedicated himself and his namesake brand to environmentally conscious manufacturing and cruelty-free fashion. Sustainability is at the heart of Cho’s business model. As a lifelong lover of the natural world, he has instilled thoughtful practices into his fashion line since its inception. All fabrics are natural and carefully sourced from heritage suppliers in the UK. His choice of fabrics is at once environmentally conscious and supportive to traditional craftsman methods.

His garments are constructed to be softer and more forgiving to the female form, allowing the gentle tailoring to create form and function for the wearer, without tight restriction. His ongoing makeup collaborators are natural, organic, cruelty-free beauty brand Inika and cruelty-free advocate and renowned makeup artist Campbell Ritchie. Chocheng is also thrilled to partner with Unite again this season.

Chocheng recently opened his namesake boutique at 751 Fifth Avenue in New York City.

THE SELECTS – DESIGNERS

Beyond Closet

Tae Yong Ko first decided to pursue a career in design after attending Fashion Week.  Inspired by a preppy, Americana aesthetic, Beyond Closet is informed by the designer’s belief that what people have in their closet reflects their personality and lifestyle.

BMUET(TE)

Sharing the same aesthetic and vision, Byungmun Seo and Jina Um launched BMUET(TE) in 2015 to challenge preconceived notions of fashion through their own creative direction, which they describe as “weird but beautiful.”  Incorporating unconventional garment construction and pattern cutting, their collections are distinctively modern, expressive, and one-of-a-kind.

HEOHWAN SIMULATION

Educated in history, Hwan Heo blends aesthetics and craftsmanship from the past with his visions for the future in his London-based label HEOHWAN SIMULATION.  The newest collection explores luxury and casual wear from the 80’s and 90’s through a sustainable lens.

Hidden Forest Market

Husband and wife duo Ji Hyun Hwang and Sung Jun Cho launched their line, Hidden Forest Market, in 2012, to give women the freedom to tell their stories through their own personal style with effortlessly sophisticated pieces.  The couple’s new collection translates the sweetness of summer nights into fashion.

KYE

Kathleen Kye’s eponymous label offers designs that are deeply personal, often reflective of her own reactions to the current state of global, social, and political affairs.  Kye approaches such subject matter with a sense of humor, wit, and optimism, offering women designs that are in a vibrant mood, colorful palette, and elaborate detail.

LEYII

A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Seunghee Lee has shown contemporary brand LEYII at Seoul Fashion Week since 2010.  The collections are the ultimate celebration of femininity, emphasizing the beauty of the female form with minimal structural lines and meticulous, delicate draping.

LIE

Designed by Central Saint Martin’s graduate Chung Chung Lee, LIE masterfully blends geometric patterns, sculptural shapes, bold color, and playful textures, championing female individuality, expression, emotion and strength – qualities central to the brand DNA.

NOHANT

Giving his customers a new way to look at unisex essentials, Noah Nam incorporates Parisian elements of modernity and elegance to everyday wares while maintaining focus on distinctive design, enduring style, and uncompromising quality.

SWBD

SWBD, or Sewing Boundaries, is a unisex brand created by Dong Ho Ha, who is not one to shy away from experimentation.  As each collection’s design direction continues to evolve, Ha aims to use fashion to bridge the gap between genders and generations.

WNDERKAMMER

A play on the classic “wunderkammer,” or cabinet of curiosities, WNDERKAMMER refers to designer Hye Young Shin’s own unique collection of objects which hold special meaning to her and serve as a source of inspiration.  Crafted in natural and eco-friendly fabrics, designs are geared toward the needs of the modern woman – versatile, pragmatic, and sophisticated.

EXCLUSIVE FashionWeek.Pro Interview w/ Romeo Hunte –

Q. FashionWeek.Pro: Tell us about your inspiration behind the show and the collection.

ROMEO HUNTE – “So this was all about sustainability and partnering with Tommy Hilfiger. Kind of going into his archives and just playing with- like-kind of reminds of when I first started and I used to take my mother’s pieces and tweak them. I went into his archives and explored a lot of great classic lifestyle wear. From the denim jacket to the trench coat to your biker jacket to just everyday pieces. I think of pieces that you wear in your everyday lifestyle in New York. And then kind of take that fantasy and bring it into Aspen for skiing. So it was very edgy, it was cool and fresh and then also it was very much unexpected. So those things I’m very proud of and happy and the collection.. everyone loved it.”

Q. FashionWeek.Pro: Is there any message that you were trying to convey through the brands DNA?

ROMEO HUNTE – “This season the collection was called the “underdog” so what I mean by the underdog is kind of like now I feel like NYFW is turning into a lot of the designers are shying away and heading off-seas and designing there. And I really want to push the needle for it and actually you know celebrate fashion here where – I was born and raised in Brooklyn – and also it’s kind of like taking my culture and putting it on the runway in a very high-end tasteful way. That’s just what it’s all about this season and also you know focusing on sustainability and to appreciate great sustainable pieces and the quality.”

🗽New York, NY – Feb. 9th, 2020: @RomeoHunte x @TommyHilfiger “THE UNDERDOG” Fall Winter 2020 Runway at @FITNYC – “Romeo Hunte’s New York Fashion Week 2020 collection was titled the ‘Underdog’. The collection was described by Mr. Hunte as “very edgy, cool and fresh.” Inspired by the archives of #TommyHilfiger, the collection featured smart and trendy ready to wear ensembles. A variety of textures from distressed denim, fur to PVC came together in his collection. Models in blazer dresses, fur coats and knee-high jeweled boots graced the runway. From half denim/half PVC jackets and half fur/half PVC coats, the contrast in textures was unique and stylish. The difference in colors from red and bright pink to muted beiges, greens and grey were brought together beautifully through various silhouettes and the mixing of materials. In Mr. Hunte’s own words, “New York everyday wear meets Aspen skiing.” The collection was composed of pieces that were very young and chic, but also tailored well and smart. Models graced the runway in headgear and face masks, which added a distinctive element to the collection.” – Check the link in bio for the full collection review and exclusive Romeo Hunte interview by @FashionWeek.Pro’s NYFW correspondent, @anadyasibal. #RomeoHunte #FW20 #Runway #RomeoHunteFW20 #RomeoHuntexTommyHilfiger #FallWinter2020 @NYFW #NYFWTheShows #NYFW #FIT #FashionInstituteofTechnology . . . Collection Review –

By: Valentina Baker
Romeo Hunte NYFW FW20 “Underdogs” Review:

Romeo Hunte recently showcased his “underdog” collection at NYFW inspired by Tommy Hilfiger, Who he got to collaborate with for his fall/winter collection. His designs have graced the likes of Michelle Obama, James Harden, Rae Sremmurd, Dwayne Wade, and Colin Kaepernick to name a few. Telling us that about what this NYFW Fall/winter collection meant to him and his inspiration behind it, he said this collection was a symbol for power, boldness, and individuality within his community and culture. The women and menswear collection was fun, edgy, and contained a theme of fur coats/a modern edgy luxury feel, embellished fringe pieces, detached sleeves, and his signature mix of fabrics and garments, (half leather blazers and coats, to half denim/half leather pants). His collection also had a heavy focus on bold accessories, with models walking down the runway in helmets, embellished/raw cut fabric masks, colorful briefcases, bedazzled thigh-high boots, and latex head scarfs.

The runway set up included a stellar violin performer who opened the show. Models walked out from all different directions on stage and into the seating area down all isles, providing guests with a more intimate look at the pieces. The show had an onset DJ, and pop/ R&B music that engaged the crowd. The collection had so many powerful pieces with a combination of fabrics, bold colors and materials. It added to the theme of the classic Americana “Tommy Hilfiger” look but made it more fun, edgy, and modern with a New York city flair, truly making this collection his own.

The energy pre-show was up-beat. Standing backstage, I could see dressers and stylists running around adding the final touches to each look. Romeo Hunte cut a piece of fabric to make a face mask and tied it around a model. People were running around, the seats outside were being filled, and the models were lining up: it was show-time.

Romeo Hunte’s New York Fashion Week 2020 collection was titled the ‘Underdog’. True to his words, the collection was “very edgy, cool and fresh”. Inspired by the archives of Tommy Hilfiger, the collection featured smart and trendy ready to wear ensembles.

In Romeo’s own words, “New York everyday wear meets Aspen skiing”. The collection was composed of pieces that were very young and chic, but also tailored well and smart. Models graced the runway in headgear and face masks, which added a distinctive element to the collection.

The Romeo Hunte NYFW show was a success. The opening of the show which featured a beautiful mix of violin instrumentals and the trending Hip-Hop song by Roddy Ricch, ‘The Box’ set the tone for his ‘Underdog’ collection which was fantastic.

🗽New York, NY – Feb. 12th, 2020: “Be Seen, Be Heard” –  Tennis phenom & Fashion Designer Serena Williams held a special Q&A panel with the incomparable Anna Wintour today at Spring Place during NYFW before revealing the S by Serena SS20 ‘see now buy now’ collection.

Ms. Wintour asks Serena Williams: “So Serena, I have been watching you play tennis since you were a teenager, obviously you played with brilliance and grace and determination. I think that the first time that Vogue Magazine photographed you and Venus Williams, you were maybe 19 or 18 – it’s taken so much hard work and dedication and you are certainly one of the world’s greatest and most successful athletes. What on earth makes you want to take on Fashion? How do you have the time?”

The perfect question for the exceptional Serena Williams. Ms. Williams shares that her love of fashion started at a very young age and that she actually went to school for fashion design. One of the reasons she chose this format for the S by Serena Spring Summer 20 collection reveal for her fans to learn more about the designer behind the brand & outside of the tennis court. She shares that her mom would make outfits for the family and her “passion for fashion” developed at an early age, realizing this career path was in her future. Notable attendees in the audience included Andre Talley and SuperModel Karlie Kloss (see video at 1:58 for a glimpse). FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOON BY NOOR PRESENTS FALL 2020 RUNWAY COLLECTION AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

(New York, NY – February 11, 2020) For its 16th return to New York Fashion Week, Noon By Noor reveals its Fall 2020 Runway Collection on Tuesday, February 11th at Spring Studios, Gallery II.

Sitting front row was Bel Powley of The Morning Show, wearing Noon By Noor’s Palmdale trouser and Westport top, alongside Jamie Chung in Noon By Noor’s Emerald Green Palmdale trouser and Harrison Shirt.

For Noon By Noor’s Fall 2020 Runway Collection, designers Noor Rashid Al Khalifa and Haya Mohammed Al Khalifa took inspiration from Bahrain’s traditional handcrafted doors and decorative architecture.

Intricate geometric shapes, which are carved in a shallow relief on wooden structures, doorways and buildings, are celebrated in this season’s fabrics. A scroll jacquard showcases fluid shapes from architectural details. Geometric lace in both black and white is more graphic in design, mimicking interlacing fretwork.

A bold scarf-tailoring fabric with a raw fringed edge in black and white provides a strong contrast to softer tones. Tweed, lined in golden oak, modernizes the traditional fabric. Satin in pure ivory is refined and alluring. Natural textiles in a utility blend linen-wool mix as well as cropped waffle knitwear, contrast the softer silks, chiffon and organza.

“We explored Bahrain’s architectural beauty through fabric and exquisite tailoring, sharp lines and earthly hues. It’s a collection both polished as a pencil skirt or wool trouser, but also leisurely and graceful,” said Noor Al Khalifa.

“Softer, feminine elements such as lace and embroidery are incorporated as details to more masculine shapes, attesting to the brand’s aesthetic,” said Haya Al Khalifa.

Fall’s colors are inspired by the golden hour of sunlight at dusk. Muted tones and monochrome shades are drawn from sandstone and darker woodwork tones. Golden Oak, Rose Smoke, Ivory, White, Peat and Black create the seasonal palette.

Architectural angles and shapes inspire silhouettes and construction details of garments – narrow vertical slits, square necklines, released pleats and pintucks. Shapes are both neat and minimalist as well as fluid and romantic.

Noon by Noor’s Fall 2020 collection allows women to wear the beauty found in Bahraini architecture in a minimal yet expressive way.

Notable Guests in attendance include Bel Powley (actress, The Morning Show), Jamie Chung (actress, The Gifted), Raveena Aurora (singer/songwriter), Karina Nigay (@karina_nigay), Camille Co (@itscamilleco), Summer Albarcha (@summeralbarcha), Christie Ferrari (@christie_ferrari), Hajra Tariq (@hajra_aaa), Lainy Hedaya Hoffstein (@lainyhedaya), Marina Bastarache (@marinabastarche) and Michelle Song (@callmemichs).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HAKAN AKKAYA’S “JUSTICE” COLLECTION – NYFW FALL/WINTER 2020

NEW YORK, NY (February 2020) – Hakan Akkaya makes a strong statement of feminine strength and cultural melding for Fall/Winter 2020-2021.

As the crowd looked on in amused awe, forty-five models made their way around the lengthy U-shaped runway at Pier 59, Stage C on Saturday, February 8th. It was, in a phrase, “a provocative feast for the fashionable-eyed observer.” The Istanbul based designer, now a fixture on the runways of NYFW, filled the cavernous, raw, black space to the brim with an audience dressed to impress, perfectly complementing the show-stopping looks that walked ON the runway.

Akkaya stated his inspiration as “Amish Meets Punk”. The inspiration was clear throughout the collection from the first look to the last. Akkaya created a collection that reinterprets the iconic clothing of the Amish sect who, to this day, turn their backs to the Modern Age, while merging it with the attitude and detailing of the Punk Subculture. The cameras & phones went a-flutter when the key looks appeared (48 in total!). In his words, Hakan Akkaya says, “t his season, my collection attracts all of the attention of femicide, justice, revolt and equality. Women who rock the runway – Women who rock the world!”

The collection also strongly embraced the most note-worthy trend of recent fashion weeks –  androgyny. Many of Akkaya’s men wore dresses, skirts and tunic blouses while many of his women donned suiting and collared shirts, each referencing the garb traditionally found in the opposite genders’ closets, yet there was something different about the trend in the hands of a designer of Hakan Akkaya’s level of talent… the looks actually seemed like they have a chance of being worn as designed, unlike many others creating in this vein.

Hardware also played a major role in defining the collection with garments pierced in a wide variety of places like caps of the shoulder, up and down the legs and princess seams of jackets and dresses, as well as through the fingertips of the black latex gloves that completed nearly every look. The hardware was not strictly ornamental, but rather crossed the line to integrally function as part of the garment itself.

As the finale walk-around commenced, the entire audience shrieked their approval, only to ramp it up even more when designer himself, Hakan Akkaya, appeared, nearly floating with pride as he blew kisses to his legions of fans, new & old alike, all the while wearing a black lace mask, which he tied onto his face during a stop on the runway. The crowd approved and Akkaya soaked up every single crack of applause and adoring shriek in a manner that is becoming his trademark.

_______

About HAKAN AKKAYA – Hakan Akkaya, a professional fashion designer for 16 years, left his education in Bilkent University (Architecture) to study Fashion Design at İstasyon Art Academy. After graduation, he started working as Design Department Manager for leading brands including Boyner Holding, Altınyıldız, Sarar among others within the Turkish textile industry. In 2010, he established his own atelier and firm. In 2012, he had the honour of becoming the first Turkish designer in “Who’s Next Paris” and “Bread & Butter” exhibitions. In addition to having served as a Consultant for the ITHIB (Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association), Akkaya also arranged and presented ITHIB’s 9th, 10th and 11th International Fabric Design Contests. Hakan Akkaya has participated in NYFW: The Shows since 2012.

Pamella Roland FW20 Collection Reviews –

By: Tatiana DiSanti

The beautiful ethereal gowns bounced like they were weightless. Elegant and regal vibes permeated the room, reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles that served as inspiration for the collection. Like the palace’s famous hall of mirrors, many of the dresses were adorned with reflective sequins and mirrored embroidery, calling attention from all angles.

By: Valentina Baker

Although it may be contradictory to say every look was a show stopper- every look was a show stopper in the FW20 Pamella Roland NYFW show. The Attention to detail in every dress was impeccable down to every last bead and thread of embroidery. The gowns glimmering down the runway locked in attention from the likes of A list celebrities in attendance such as Martha Hunt, Victoria Justice, Jamie Chung, and Nigel Barker of America’s next top model, amongst other notable guests.

The collection focused on more fitting, curve-hugging silhouettes- with the exception of the voluminous floral ball gown that was the closing piece. The models looked empowered and whimsical walking down the runway. There was also a huge focus on beading, floral prints, as well as diamond embroidered and luminescent fabrics. The color palette was bright, bold, and detailed, shifting from more classic traditional black/single tone gowns. Royal blues, emerald greens, orchard purples, and gold were the most incorporated into the garments.

Each gown stood on it’s on and made a statement, and each seeming to surpass each other in looks – just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, it did – each look was equally as beauteous.

Pamella closed the show and graced down the runway embracing her husband for an emotional finale to an unforgettable show of stunning and elegantly crafted work.

By: YiRou Wang

Trends at Pamella Roland F/W 2020 in this runway included the silhouettes with disciplined structure modernizing the ethereal tulle gowns. The fabrics were fluid, shiny and slinky as another expression of feminity, self-confidence and sustainability. The emerging ethereal feel by using luxe fringing to imitate plumage dramatically increased the volume and dimension of each garment as it flashed by on the runway.

By: Anadya Sibal

The Pamella Rolland show was nothing short of stunning. Shimmery gowns that trailed the runway, fur-trimmed slits and silhouettes that were tailored to perfection made for a collection that was jaw-dropping. Whether it was bejeweled bodices or lace capes, this show had it all and more.

By: Natalie Kendrick

Completely speechless and amazed after previewing the Pamela Roland Fall Winter 2020 collection. The details on the dresses showed such class and elegance. From the sidelines of the runway, you can see the dresses light up the entire gallery.

Press Release: February 7th, 2020 – New York, NY

ABOUT:
The extravagant Palace of Versailles serves as the inspiration for our F20 collection. We felt particularly inspired by the interiors of Versailles, including its chandeliers, tapestries, furniture, art and ornate architecture. We incorporated these elements into our gowns through modern embroidery techniques, fabrics, colors and silhouettes.

Using fabrics including a metallic speckled, gem-inspired jacquard, we wanted to focus on jewel and metallic tones to channel the opulence found within Versailles’s gilded halls. A coat in a tapestry- inspired jacquard paired with multicolored paillette and feather-embroidered cuffs highlight our focus on combining textures. Our signature metallic sequins and feathers are incorporated, along with ornate metallic appliques, dangling fringe and multi-color chandelier-inspired crystals. Our silhouettes combine new shapes with our classic, including draped silhouettes, exaggerated sleeves, ball gowns, capes, and sleek column silhouettes.

Collection Reviews –

By: Anadya Sibal

The Tadashi Shoji show was literally breathtaking. With beautiful silhouettes in rich jewel tone colors of blue, red, green, and gold, each look was more stunning than the previous. Leopard print coats paired with black and gold jacquard gowns made for bold and chic styling. The vivid pops of color were mesmerizing, both in the garments and the makeup. There were dresses and gowns for every occasion – some featuring thigh-high splits and others with capes that trailed the floor. The garments featured an array of textures, from metallic prints to paneled skirts. The collection screamed confident, sophisticated and stylish.

By: Emily Michaels

When asked for the inspiration for his latest Fall 2020 runway collection, Tadashi Shoji replied that the story for him began with Mongolia and its connection to the rest of Europe. The ‘East Meets West’ concept behind the show was clearly a thorough point in the collection planning process, from the casting to the silhouette choices. As the models hit the runway, mellow middle eastern sounds played from the speakers. The first look featured a gorgeous electric blue brocade coat, with a matching blue fur wide lapel collar, a printed high neck pleated dress completed with a set of emerald green leather gloves and a pair of rhinestoned black heeled knee boots; a look that set the tone for the rest of collection and helped cement the importance of blues and brocades for the rest of the show.

Progressing quickly from cocktail dresses to full-length gowns, Shoji’s signature, the show used a bevy of luxe fabrics; from brocades, laces, and taffetas to sequins, fringes and furs. With a color palette that featured warm tones in golds, reds and browns, juxtaposed against bright blues and teals, the feel was upscale elegance. Styled with tousled locks complete with braided brocade strands and bright monochromatic blue eye makeup, the models felt modern, expensive and cool. Mr. Shoji also appeared to be inspired by the return of 80’s fashion to the zeitgeist, materializing on the runway as powerful statement shoulders, which he featured in multiple looks and modernized by using a variation of pleating and draping techniques. Taking his classic gowns to a reinvented level of elevation, Shoji’s Fall 2020 show felt free-spirited, ethnic and expensive; all things that keep his devoted fan base interested while simultaneously bringing new, young audiences to his shows.

Kenneth Nicholson Review FW20 “From Grandma’s Couch”

By: Valentina Baker

From boxers spray painted in gold and black glitter in the center of the runway, to an inspiring opening recorded speech, the Kenneth Nicholson show didn’t fail to impress. Model’s cascaded out in earthy muted green and red fabrics, with bold textures and layering of garments and mixing of patterns. The garments were Impressively tailored and pleaded, and there was no shortage of coats- everything from trenches to flowier transcending coats, to blazers with matching trousers.
This collection was bold, playful, and eclectic. It combined 70’s and 90 style motifs and colors that offered a refreshing take on traditional menswear, staying true to the brands “liberating the boundaries of menswear” Moto.

By: Tatiana Disanti

The Kenneth Nicholson runway show was a true testament to menswear breaking boundaries, featuring both men and women walking in the neo-vintage pieces. The collection was “from grandma’s couch,” a feeling evoked from the drapey silhouettes of quilt and tapestry and a textured needlepoint two-piece ensemble in a muted houndstooth of primary colors. It was all set around two shimmering boxers methodically sparring each other as the models circled around them. The show was a nod to generations past with its mid-century mustards and playful hues of red and blue, capturing feelings of comfort and nostalgia reminiscent of the warmth of your grandmother’s living room.
