KRISTINA FIDELSKAYA COLLECTION AUTUMN / WINTER 20

 ” DREAM “

Paris, March 2, 2020

For the Autumn/Winter 2020 collection, Kristina Fidelskaya draws inspiration from a poetic world where past, present and future combine. A nostalgic modernist view of the future.

The 2020 AW collection is named “DREAM” to evoke the feelings of Happiness, Hope and Belief. This collection is inspired by having a dream, working on your dream and making your dream a reality. It’s about energy and inspiration, to do all you do in the best possible way.

The storyline for this season takes place between Paris and Florence in the ’70s & ’80s, where we are inspired by Bobby Deerfield and Lilian Morelli’s journey. Together they travel through Europe, fall in love, time spent filled with beautiful peaceful moments, as if the landscape had stopped breathing.

Defining strong, feminine style the collection translates in ‘dream-like’ silhouettes, techniques and futuristic cross-cultural references – In this world, couture era tailoring combined with soft shades of air-light tulle, nostalgically stitched and quilted Nappa in clean modernist forms in clinical white. Beatnik-generation fringed nubuck suede sits next to dramatic couture evening elements of gathered tulle and feathers, cashmere lounge suits and feminine retro printed silk.

We want to dress you, each and every one of you; throughout every moment of your day”

Press Release –

Paris, France (February 27, 2020) – Luxury label, Ryan Roche, in partnership with Visa, presented their Fall Winter 2020 collection during Paris Fashion Week at the Mona Bismarck American Center for Arts. The show began with an ethereal singing performance by Ryan’s daughter Luella Roche of “Little Green” by Joni Mitchell setting the stage for the Americans in Paris.

An effortless sense of elevated ease is something that Ryan Roche delivered in her Fall 2020 collection with super-luxe cashmere knitwear and ready to wear that was unveiled in delicious jewel tones. Shades of bright blue-violet, rich vibrant turquoise, postbox red as well as their signature butterscotch camels, créme, ivory and modern white neutrals graced the runway. Sumptuous, lofty cashmere knits were highlighted in beautiful, intricate cable knit patterns layered to create a play on the braided textures. Long fluid cashmere knit trousers were shown layered under buttery oversized cashmere turtlenecks and modern strong-shouldered tailored jackets creating a luxurious fresh take on the leisure suit.

Intricate chantilly silk laces were perfectly executed in brilliant blue-violet and post box red silk adorning silk chiffon slip dresses and voluminous puff sleeves. Airy flowing silk dresses were standouts that any woman would be left lusting after with that air of effortless ease, and chic elevated mood that Ryan Roche has become known for.

Standout pieces included a bold red double-breasted power suit with puffed sleeves, expertly executed cashmere coats, and a rick turquoise silk floor-length puff sleeve gown with pearl collar chain.  Collared pieces in the collection were embellished with delicate bespoke pearls hand strung by the designer’s creative collaborator friend, actress Vera Farmiga.

An upcoming collaboration with luxury purveyor Mark Cross Handbags was teased with the reveal of a blue-violet clutch adorned with gold hardware. Also seen was a blue-violet custom pump made as a capsule collaboration with Brother Vellies.

Three intimate rooms housed in a 19th-century mansion on the Seine played host to the designer’s first show in Europe. The ornate molding and hand-painted wall panel was the perfect backdrop for the collection that showed the designers penchant for craftsmanship and sumptuous fabrics that make a statement through subtle elegance. The designer brought some of the prairies to Paris on a rainy afternoon soothing the fashion elite with an elegant collection that offered calm creams and camels, vibrant turquoises and bold blue hues.

Roche said: “We are to show our Fall’20 collection in Paris. This was our first international runway show outside of NYFW and the CFDA, whose support and mentorship have led us to this incredible position. The fluidity afforded to us to evolve our presentation format and now geography is something we are so grateful for as we continue to strategically expand our global business.  We enjoy a strong European customer base, and this will strengthen and support our presence here. We were excited to capture the spirit of “Ryan Roche” in Paris and bringing our world to an extended international audience this season.”

Notable attendees included Amber Valetta (Actress/Model), Vera Farmiga (Actress/Producer) and Avril Graham (Harper’s Bazaar Editor). The makeup was provided by Cassandra Garcia for Bobbi Brown with hair from David Mallett. Accessories were provided by Manolo Blahnik / Brother Vellies (shoes) and Mark Cross (handbags).

Collection Notes:

Christian Wijnants Fall/Winter 2020 collection is inspired by a Sunday afternoon spent at a historic museum, where objects from all over exist in one place, contributing to the same story, although their origin may be different or not even clear. It is about serenity, having a peaceful mind and feeling comfortable and cozy in the clothes you wear.

The collection begins with a mix of what the brand has become known for, inventive knitwear and fluid dressing, before moving on to colorful prints through a continued poetic approach to designing. Different techniques can be seen throughout, from handmade crochet pieces that are designed to replicate a reptile to fringe made of jersey fabric that has been stretched to create a natural roll. The RTW is soft but abstract, effortless and minimal such as the oversized coats with exaggerated necks that resemble a cocoon and a suit that is bold in color yet relaxed in its silhouette, balancing between masculine and feminine. The brand included more accessories this season with oversized, knotted totes and footwear consistent with platformed loafers and combat boots, as well as sandals that are styled with socks throughout. The collection navigated its color palette through soft colors, such as mint, pistachio, and pink, to a brighter tangerine, as well as darker greens and blues and the classic black and white.

Like an exhibition at a museum, the Fall/Winter 2020 Christian Wijnants collection is diverse yet uniform in the story it tells.

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s Americans in Paris

If you’re at all associated or interested in American fashion you are probably familiar with the CFDA and the Vogue Fashion Fund. If you aren’t, the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund was established in 2003 to help emerging American design talent find continued success in the business of fashion and can be easily described as the realistic business version of Bravo’s Project Runway. Started in 2003, the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund has helped emerging fashion design talent grow and thrive by granting the winner not only a sizable cash prize ($400k) – but more importantly, guidance from some of the industry’s leading professionals. Since its inception, the fund has granted $6.6 million dollars to 45 companies including now well-known designers such as Alexander Wang, Thom Browne, 3.1 Phillip Lim and many more.

Being the 15th year of the CVFF, that meant double the talent from the previous year, and the list of finalists excited both industry professionals and fashion fans alike. One of the many cool aspects of being a finalist in the annual Fund’s competition is the ‘Americans in Paris’ showroom presentation. According to a press statement, the Americans in Paris event “provides invaluable global exposure for designers as well as sales, marketing and media support necessary to expand their respective businesses.”

“Paris is an important stop on the global fashion week circuit, and with Americans in Paris, we are helping the designers meet the buyers and editors whom they might not have otherwise met,” explained Steven Kolb, President & Chief Executive Officer of the CFDA.

The PFW FashionWeek.Pro team was able to preview all nine finalists – including the BATSHEVA SS20 collection – first-hand.

“COSMOS” SS20 THEME

Tales of the legendary phoenix have persisted across diverse cultural traditions since ancient times.

The depiction of the phoenix in the works of Osamu Tezuka, flying through space and time, speaks to both the strength and folly of humanity and calls us to contemplate the preciousness of life.

“On a personal level, the tales of this legendary bird have influenced my perspective on the contemporary meaning of beauty.” ~ Yuima Nakazato

Biosmocking Evolved

YUIMA NAKAZATO has always aspired to create tailor-made garments that harmonize with the individuality of each wearer. To accomplish this objective, our designs are based around our proprietary “Unit System”, a modular approach inspired by our observations of natural crystal and molecular structures.

First announced during the A/W 2019 season, BIOSMOCKING represents a significant evolution of our Unit System technology, and its application in this season’s collection represents a major step forward for our vision.

Through collaboration with Spiber, YUIMA NAKAZATO has developed a textile-modeling method for creating three-dimensional textures. This process—Biosmocking™— works by precisely controlling the super contraction property of specially-tailored Brewed Protein™ textiles, and makes it possible to bring an entirely new sense of three-dimensionality to our garments.

Experimentation with numerous prototypes and production processes has resulted in significant improvements to shrinkage control, resulting in the ability to create three-dimensional textures as well as modify the shape of the material itself.

Each of the rectangles printed on the garments’ fabric has a different purpose—some are designed to hug the body, while others are intended to hang freely. Utilizing the latest iteration of Biosmocking in this manner allows us to design reactive garments that incorporate limitless variation.

The application of Biosmocking allows us to offer highly personalized pieces which envelop the body without being cut or sewn, and which offer endless potential for customization in terms of sizing and design.

The Japanese kimono and Western clothing traditions arise from two different approaches to the body. Made from rectangular patterns, the kimono is not designed to fit any one body in particular but rather has the potential to accommodate a wide variety of body shapes and types. In comparison, Western dresses are cut and sewn using curved patterns and are tailored to fit the shape of the human body. The kimono requires a styling technique called kitsuke to fit it to the wearer, while Western dresses are created from the outset to fit the wearer’s body. For this collection, we have utilized rectangular patterns designed to fit the human body, representing a fusion of the two clothing traditions.

The designs for this collection were inspired by the beautiful changes we witnessed as the material shifted and transformed before our eyes during early experimentation with Biosmocking development. We imagine that this experience in some way mirrors that of our ancestors as they went through numerous trials and errors learning to master the use of fire.

As a whole, this collection is the result of a unique attempt to blend old and new technologies—to fuse primitive fashion techniques with the latest in biotechnology and digital fabrication.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainable development was a primary concern during the creation of this collection. Some of the initiatives taken to achieve this goal include the use of Spiber’s sustainability-oriented Brewed Protein™ materials, the implementation of waste-minimizing production methods, and the upcycling of scrap materials.

  • Brewed Protein™ x Silk Textile

Featuring recycled silk, this original blended textile showcases the radiant color and shine of Brewed Protein™ filament yarn.

  •  Patterns

Traditional dress patterns employ curved lines to fit the shape of the human body, an approach which inevitably produces excess waste cloth when cutting material from rectangular bolts of fabric. The latest version of Biosmocking technology changes the shape of the fabric itself, which enables us to minimize waste by utilizing rectangular fabric as-is.

  •  Glass Bottle Upcycled Jewelry

Jewelry featured in the collection was created from glass bottles upcycled by cut glass craftsmen.

  •  Eco-friendly Jewelry

Environmentally-friendly jewelry made by combining original Brewed Protein™ resin beads with rock paint and brass.

  •  Customizable, Environmentally-Conscious Boots

These all-natural boots feature hand-crafted wooden soles and Brewed Protein™ textiles sewn with recycled silk yarn.

The boots can also be customized with knitted accessories, and their height can be adjusted to suit the tastes and styles of the individual wearer.

  •  Hand Knitting with TYPE-1

Some of the dresses featured in this collection are created from recycled silk yarn and Brewed Protein™ yarn blended together into pieces called “unit parts” and joined with proprietary studded clasps. As each of these parts can be replaced in a matter of seconds, the wearer can easily change the design of the dress or replace single damaged parts without disposing of the entire garment, resulting in a garment that can last for multiple generations.

Free from the traditional constraints posed by needle and thread, YUIMA NAKAZATO’s proprietary TYPE-1 clothing production system is instantly customizable, easily repairable, and flexible enough for users to switch materials and sizes to adapt to changes in body shape.
